Dry Cannabis with Cardboard Box

In this article we will see how to dry cannabis with cardboard box, we will explain how to prepare the box and the various cleaning methods used before the hassle.

Drying is the process that transforms THC from the raw, non-psychoactive form, to the neutral, psychoactive form.

Drying converts at least 75% of the freshly harvested plant into water vapor and other gases.

When you cut the plant or a part of it and put it to dry, the transport of fluids inside the plant continues, albeit slowly.

The stomata closing immediately after collection, obstructing the escape of water vapor, slow down drying.

The natural processes of the plant slowly stop as the plant dries up.

Eliminating large leaves and thick branches at the time of harvest can reduce drying times, however uneven levels of humidity remain in the buds, branches and leaves.

Drying incorrectly or too quickly will trap starch and nitrates, as well as chlorophyll and other pigments in the plant tissues, thus giving a “green” taste and an unpleasant taste to cannabis, thus causing it to burn badly.

So as a first tip: dry your cannabis slowly !!

Drying in a cardboard box - How to do it?

If you don't have a dryer at your disposal, our advice is:

  1. Build yourself a "mini grow" of cardboard (just the right size to fit all the crop);
  2. Maintain a temperature between 18 ° and 24 °;
  3. Keep the humidity between 45% and 55%;

Building a small space to store and dry your crop will be simple.

Take a box and with the use of adhesive tape cover any holes. With toothpicks, or according to how much weight they have to hold, the "sticks" of the drying rack: pierce the box from one side to the other so that you can then hang the tops of the crop with fairly strong clothespins.

Another method is to pass threads from side to side making two holes on each side and a knot can then be made.

Cleaning the plant is a very important part of the pre-drying process, there are two methods, one with a wet cut, that is, immediately after cutting the plant and a second one that involves cleaning after drying.

Between the two methods it is preferable to clean initially because in this way it is easier, in the second method therefore the dry cleaning would risk ruining the flower and losing a large part of the pollen.

This does not mean that the result is not optimal and only more complicated, some argue that by drying the product with the presence of leaves the active ingredients would have a better maturation.

Wet Cleaning           Dry Cleaning

After choosing the drying method, the buds or any whole plants must be hung upside down.

to keep an ideal temperature and humidity within limits, you will need a hygrometer and a thermometer.

Keep the box closed to avoid light, open daily for an air change.

When you are convinced that you are near the end of drying, gently squeeze the buds to feel their texture.

To know when they are ready just take a twig and then when you try to fold it it breaks! usually the twigs turn yellow and this must be done with all the twigs of various sizes.

In case you want to preserve, put the buds in glass jars and go to the tanning afterwards, you can store in the refrigerator with maybe a boveda or absorbent sheet to maintain the right humidity.

      si hace frío y humedad, puede tardar hasta una semana or dos.
      hay que hacer unas pruebas con los cogollos y meterlos en el tarro yes no more than 65% of humedad inside the tarro ya están listos para el curtido.
